As the weather gets warmer, now’s the perfect time to add some of these 11 fun self care ideas to your routine for summer!
It’s all too easy to forget the importance of self care when we get busy in our day to day lives, but finding ways to include quality self care in our schedule every day can honestly be life changing!
And one of the most important aspects of quality self care is finding out which types of self care work best for you!
Think about these questions:
What activities make me feel recharged?
What activities make me feel happy and excited?
When do I feel calm and at peace?
Figure out those answers, and then find ways to incorporate more of that into your daily life!
And keep reading to get some summer-time self care inspiration!
1. Start your day with a glass of lemon water
Or cucumber, mint, whatever flavors you love!
Starting your day with a glass of water is always a great way to show your body some love, and adding your favorite flavors is a fun way to mix it up for the summertime!
2. Chose a daily affirmation
Affirmations can be a powerful tool to change your mindset and boost self esteem, if you’re remembering to use them often!
A post it note on your mirror can be a great reminder, or try setting a notification on your phone every day!

3. Go stargazing
This is one of my personal favorite forms of spiritual self care, as it always leaves me feeling calm and grounded.
There’s just something about looking up at the vast expanse of the universe that makes life’s problems seem smaller.
And the best part is that you don’t even have to leave your backyard for this one!
4. Check out a new book at your library
Do you remember joining in those summer reading programs when you were a kid?
Did you know that some libraries even have summer reading programs for adults?!
Trust me, I was just as surprised when I found out! But even if you’re local library doesn’t have a program like that, you can still take advantage of that wide selection of books, and find something you love!
Escape your day to day with an epic fantasy, dive into some personal development topics, or even just re-read an old favorite! (I’ve been re-reading Harry Potter this year and am loving all the nostalgia!)
5. Make your own self care kit
You can’t go wrong with a self care kit! And putting one together now means it’ll be ready to go for those days when you just need a little rest and relaxation!
Some ideas of things you can include:
- Coloring book + pens
- Face mask
- Scented candle
- Chocolate
- Bath bombs
- Journal
- Essential oils
- Stress ball
Another fun idea is to include a self care ideas jar in your kit!
That way you don’t have to come up with an idea on the spot, just pull out a card!
6. Take a road trip
Sometimes the absolute best thing we can do is give ourselves a little time away from it all.
Plan a road trip with family, friends, your dog, or solo!
Try playing fun road trip games, blasting your favorite music, or enjoying an inspirational podcast.
Any way you do it, just be sure to take your time and enjoy the drive!
7. Have a picnic
Pack some of your favorite snacks and drinks, and head to a local park (or your own backyard!) to enjoy your meal in the sunshine.
It’s the ultimate of summer self care ideas!
Don’t forget a good book!
Bonus points if you take off your shoes and walk through the grass barefoot!
8. Take a new class/Start a new hobby
Taking a class can be a great way to get out of the house and meet new people at the same time as you learn something new!
If that’s not really your thing, or you don’t have time it right now, then try finding an online course or even just free YouTube videos that will help you learn how to do something new!
A few ideas for fun hobbies you might love:
- Yoga
- Cooking/Baking
- Origami
- Gardening
- Photography
- Calligraphy
- Mixed Media Art
9. Watch the sunrise/sunset
Totally free, and available every single day, and yet, when was the last time you stopped to enjoy it?
If you haven’t in awhile, take some time to enjoy a quiet moment and watch the sunrise or sunset.
Add in a cup of tea, coffee, or whatever your favorite drink is!
10. Have an at home spa-day
Some ideas to get the mood right and create a perfectly relaxing at home spa day:
- Declutter & clean the space you’ll be relaxing in ahead of time
- Get all the ingredients together to create a DIY face/hair mask or scrub
- Diffuse essential oils/light a scented candle
- Play calming music or nature sounds
- Have your favorite drink
11. Go out for ice cream
Or make a fun ice cream sundae bar at home!
Nothing says summer like enjoying a cool treat on a hot day.
One of the memories I love from childhood was that my mom would always let us eat ice cream for breakfast on the fourth of July…It’s something I still do every year with my son now!

And remember, self care doesn’t have to be big or expensive to be effective!
