Today I’m sharing my most recent organization project, which was to finally organize my coffee and tea drawer!

When it comes to organization I feel like this is a pretty important spot for most of us.

There’s nothing worse for your morning routine than having to rush around looking for things when you’re trying to get out the door or started with work on time!

And let me tell you, I am not. a. morning. person.

I do everything I can to maintain peace and harmony in the mornings, because that’s far too early in the day for me to handle any chaos! Haha!

So keep reading to see how I organized this space to make my mornings run a little bit smoother!

You might just be inspired to do the same!

Before:

So as you can see, this space was a mess before.

Sure it had a few coffee pods and some tea bags in it.

But it had no defined purpose, and had really just become a catch all for random things in my kitchen!

But more and more often I found myself wishing I had an organized space for my coffee and tea.

At that point the rest of it was all just sort of piled up in one of my cabinets.

It was hard to find anything at all, and half the time I just gave up on finding exactly what I was looking for, and just settled for something else.

And there was another unfortunate side effect of having it all so disorganized!

Time and time again I ended up buying a new box of tea or coffee pods, only to realize I still had plenty hidden in the back of the cabinet!

So in the interest of saving my sanity and my money haha, I got to work utilizing this misused drawer to solve my problem for good!

Time to organize…

Now let me tell you, I usually tend to organize my house late at night.

Because for one thing, I’m not a morning person as I mentioned haha…

And for two, that’s when my toddler is asleep!

It’s SO much easier to focus on organizing a space without the constant clangs of a hot wheels destruction derby on the coffee table or a toy firetruck wailing through the house.

If you’re a parent I know you get exactly what I mean, haha!

But there is a problem with organizing late at night.

And that is that it’s usually impossible to run to the store and grab supplies. That means I’m limited to whatever I have on hand, and a bit of creativity!

On the night I organized this drawer, I was struggling with how to organize my coffee pods in a way that looked neat and tidy. Most of the drawers I saw on Pinterest used wood dividers or long plastic containers of some type.

But since I didn’t have those on hand, I started to think about what else might work. And that’s when it hit me!

The idea

I actually had a metal coffee pod holder already.

It was the type that sit underneath your coffee maker and have a pull out drawer.

And I wasn’t using it anymore since it was too wide to fit on my new, thinner coffee bar.

So after emptying my kitchen drawer, I pulled the metal tray out completely from the frame, and sure enough! It fit perfectly in my kitchen drawer!

I wasn’t sure what I would use the rest of the metal frame for, but when my mom came over the next day she actually mentioned that it would be the perfect size to hold her ink pads! So I gave it to her, and now that one unused drawer has helped to organize two spaces!

After adding the metal coffee pod holder to my drawer, I just needed one small plastic container to hold tea and various other things. Luckily I did have one of those on hand! I placed a couple of full boxes of tea that I don’t use as often towards the back of the drawer to make use of a little empty space there.

I arranged my tea bags neatly in rows, and organized my coffee pods by type.

Then I grouped a few honey spoons together in one corner of the container.

An organizing tip

One of the most important aspects of organizing is all about how you arrange things!

Because the exact same number of items in this same space, would look far less neat and tidy if they weren’t arranged and grouped by type, flavor, etc.

In fact with this trick you can actually make a space look far more organized, without even getting rid of anything! Just group the items on a shelf or in a drawer together in a way that’s pleasing to the eye!

After:

And that’s all it took to get this drawer looking great! Now I can’t help but smile everytime I open it to grab something.

Plus I love how much simpler it’s made my mornings! I can find what I need, exactly when I need it, without having to search around!

I hope this post inspired you to organize your own space, and showed you that even a small area can make a huge difference in our daily lives when it’s well organized!

If you start to think about what other little hassles you deal with in your home throughout the day, you may just find even more small spaces like this that you can organize in order to keep your days running smoother and happier for everyone!

Once you’ve finished your coffee and tea drawer organization, try making a list of all the other troublesome spots in your home, and then start tackling them, one by one!

Shoes piling up at the doorway, mail being left on the kitchen table… etc.

They may seem like minor nuisances, but boy can they sure add up!

You’ll be amazed at how much more peaceful a well organized home can feel!
