Today I’m going to share how to spring clean your house in 5 days PLUS a free spring cleaning checklist!

I may have said it in every post lately, but…yep, I’m going to say it again, I love spring!

And during this time of year I feel like there’s nothing quite like opening up the windows to air out the house, while really giving it a good deep clean!

Because let’s be honest, when was the last time any of us washed our trash cans? Or wiped the top of the fridge?

Well it’s certainly been a minute for me at least, haha!

But this is the perfect time of year to tackle all those nagging household tasks that you’ve been putting off!

And I’m going to be sharing my guide for how I spring clean my whole house in just FIVE days!

Yep that’s right, you’ll be done before the weekend even arrives!

And as an added treat, I’ve included some weekend tasks on your free spring cleaning checklist as well, all focused on relaxing and taking care of YOU after your busy week of cleaning!

Why you may ask?

Well because if you’re anything like me, sometimes you need a little reminder (or a task list with checkboxes, haha!) to make sure you actually take some time for yourself!

Note: this list doesn’t include basics like wiping the countertops, sinks, etc. because I figure most of us already do those things regularly anyway. Instead this list focuses on the areas that we may not clean as often or sometimes just forget to clean at all!

    Monday: KITCHEN/DINING ROOM

Clean all appliances inside and out –

This means every little nook and cranny! Around all handles and knobs, hard to reach places like the top of the fridge, and the entire inside of each of them as well.

When wiping down small appliances like the microwave or toaster, be sure to move them and wipe any dust or crumbs that may have fallen underneath as well!

It may be a good idea to do this before you go grocery shopping, that way your fridge won’t be quite as full, and you won’t have to move as much food around when cleaning the shelves and drawers.

    Wipe backsplash and cabinets –

We usually wipe our countertops regularly, but often we forget the backsplash and cabinets! Dirt and grime tends to build up on these overtime as well, so be sure to give them a good wipe down. Don’t forget the cabinet handles as well!

Throw away all expired food –

Be sure to go through it all! Even the things you don’t think about as often, like canned food, baking ingredients like oil and flour, and even that pile of sauce packets that always seems to accumulate somewhere in the fridge, haha!

    Disinfect trash cans –

One of those often forgot about places, but dirt and grime usually builds up in your trash can over time and can really keep your kitchen from smelling fresh!

Wipe down baseboards and walls –

Be sure to wipe all of the baseboards in the room, as well as the walls. You can wipe down the walls entirely, or if you’re pressed for time, just spot clean them!

It really can be surprising how many little things can go unnoticed on the walls and baseboards until you look closer!

    Tuesday: LIVING ROOM

Wash throw blankets & pillows –

Just a quick trip through the wash will usually do, and don’t forget to add your favorite fabric softener or essential oil for an extra fresh scent!

    Shampoo carpets & upholstery

You can just spot clean, or go all out and do the entire thing!

Don’t forget your rugs as well!

Dust wall decor & photo frames

This is something I tend to forget about, but it’s a sneaky place for dust to build up over time.

    Vacuum/mop underneath couch

If you have kids, make sure to get them involved with helping because you’re sure to find an entire toy box worth of toys down there, haha!

Wipe down baseboards and walls –

Once again wipe all of the baseboards in the room, as well as the walls. Either wipe down the walls entirely, or just spot clean them!

    Wednesday: BATHROOM

Replace or wash shower liner –

These things usually get grimy pretty quickly, so take a look at yours and see if it’s time for a wash or replacement.

    Empty & vacuum drawers –

Because seriously, have you ever closely examined the bottom of your bathroom drawers?!

This isn’t a bad idea in all the rooms of your house actually, but the bathroom is definitely where it’s needed most!

    Clean toothbrush holder

Another of those places we tend to forget about, but both the inside and outside of your toothbrush holder would probably benefit from a good cleaning.

And while you’re at it, you may want to consider wiping down any soap or lotion dispensers you have on the counter as well.

    Disinfect trash cans –

If you thought the kitchen trash can was bad, the bathroom one is probably worse, haha! But nothing some soap and water can’t fix!

Wipe down baseboards and walls –

Have you noticed a trend here yet? Yep I’m going to remind you to do this in every room. Because even if you do a quick wipe of the baseboards and only spot clean the walls, it will still make a huge difference!

    Thursday: BEDROOMS

    Vacuum & flip mattress –

This one may even help you get a better night’s sleep!

    Wash pillows –

Most of us wash our pillow cases regularly, but washing the actual pillows is important to remember as well.

    Vacuum/mop underneath bed –

And while you’re at it, now would be the perfect time to sort through and organize anything that you might be keeping tucked away underneath there!

    Clean out closet –

Put away winter clothes, throw out anything with holes or tears, and donate any clothes or shoes you don’t wear anymore.

Wipe down baseboards and walls –

Once again wipe all of the baseboards in the room, as well as the walls. Either wipe down the walls entirely, or just spot clean them!

    Friday: LAUNDRY ROOM & OFFICE

Clean appliances inside & out –

This includes not only wiping them off but also running a wash cycle on your washing machine, and vacuuming out the lint trap on the dryer. Be sure to clean underneath and behind them too so you don’t miss any hidden lint or dirt that’s built up!

    Dust & organize shelves –

In the laundry room throw out any old cleaning or laundry products and wipe down shelves. Then reorganize what’s left to be easily accessible.

For the office, wipe and dust shelves and bookcases. Reorganize office supplies and books, and switch out decor for something updated if you’re ready for a change!

Sort & file or shred papers –

Paper clutter always seems to be the one type of clutter that accumulates the fastest, right? Take the time to go through any random piles in the office and throughout the rest of the house as well. Toss or shred anything you don’t need. File the rest (and if you don’t have a storage system for important papers yet now would be a great time to start one!)

    Dust & clean electronics –

Vacuum and dust your keyboard. Wipe your computer screen with a lint free cloth or a wipe designed for screens.

Wipe down baseboards and walls –

Once again wipe all of the baseboards in the room, as well as the walls. Either wipe down the walls entirely, or just spot clean them!

    Weekend: RELAX

    Self care –

A bubble bath, journaling, an evening with your favorite book, a long phone call with your best friend…whatever self care looks like for you, do some this weekend!

And if you’d like a few self care ideas that are perfect for spring, you can also check out this post:

Watch the sunset or sunrise –

Because some of us are morning people, and some of us are not, haha! But that’s okay, that’s what sunsets are for! So whichever your preference, try to take a moment to stop and appreciate one of these often overlooked beauties!

    Wear your favorite outfit –

Because…why not?? Stop waiting for somewhere to go, and just enjoy looking your best for no one but yourself!

    Buy yourself flowers –

Waiting for someone else to buy you flowers is just old fashioned, am I right? Go out and buy your favorites (or pick some if you have a garden!) and place them somewhere you can look at them often. They’ll be sure to brighten up any room!

Pause. take a deep breath –

We all need to be reminded to do this from time to time.

Sometimes just a simple pause, and a few deep breaths can be exactly what we need to clear and refocus our minds.

I hope this guide helps you to check spring cleaning off of your to-do list!

I feel like when it comes to tackling a big job like this, it can be really helpful to follow a guide or checklist. Especially because we so often become blind to the dust and dirt that gradually builds up in certain areas of our homes over time.

This is just a general guide, so of course feel free to do more or less depending on your own situation!
