These DIY kids Halloween ghost wands were such a fun project to make!

And my son honestly hasn’t stopped playing with them since, haha!

If you’re anything like me, then this new trend of pastel colors in fall and Halloween decor just makes your heart happy 💖

So I couldn’t resist incorporating some pretty pastels in this project.

These would be a PERFECT addition to your boo box this year!

Or you could incorporate them into a game or puppet show for a fun Halloween at home.

Another idea would be to give them out as party favors!

Whatever you plan to use them for, you’re going to be amazed at how simple they are to make!

Keep reading to get my step by step guide to these fun little ghosts!

Supplies Needed:

  • Yarn
  • Wooden dowel
  • Ribbon
  • Black craft foam sheet
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hole punch (optional)

Step One: The yarn

For this step you’ll want to grab a book.

Any size book will work!

Cut a piece of the yarn you’re using to the length of the books spine and then tape it to both ends of the book.

Now take the end of your roll of yarn and wrap it around the book at least 60 times.

Once you’re finished, untape the two ends of the yarn piece and tie it in a knot around the wrapped yarn.

Now take a pair of scissors and cut the bottom of the wrapped yarn until all pieces are separated and you can remove it from the book.

Flip it over so that the knot you made at the top of the wrapped yarn is underneath, then cut another piece of yarn and wrap it around the rest of the yarn about an inch or so from the top, and tie a knot.

You can adjust it to make whatever size ghost head looks best to you!

After you’ve tied a knot in the yarn, take whatever color ribbon you’re using and tie a piece over the top of it, leaving it long enough to have some hanging on either side.

I used multiple ribbon on some of mine which turned out cute too!

And you’re finished with the first step!

Step Two: The dowel

Now the dowels I purchased were originally three feet long, so I had to cut mine down.

If you can find shorter ones then you can skip this step completely!

For reference I cut my dowels to about 12 inches each. Which seemed to work well!

You may also want to make sure there are no splinters or rough edges on them.

I went over mine quickly with a fine sanding block, but again that’s optional!

Then just place some hot glue at the end of your dowel, and then push it through the middle of the yarn and up into the ghosts head.

Step Three: The eyes!

Now you’ll want to take either a hole punch or scissors, and cut out two eyes for each ghost that you made.

I used a sheet of black craft foam for this, because it was much easier to cut with the whole punch than felt!

Once you have your eyes cut out, just hot glue them onto the front of your ghosts.

And you’re finished!

Here’s how they look all put together:

And with so many different yarn color options out there, you can literally make them in any color you can imagine!

And let me tell you, these things have been tested and are toddler approved!

After we finished making these my three year old didn’t put them down for the rest of the day!

He even insisted that we take one with us when we went for a walk later that day haha!

It was honestly the cutest thing to watch him running with his “little ghosties” as he calls them 🥰

If you want to cut down on cost you can probably find all of these supplies at Dollar Tree as well, I know they usually always have yarn, dowels, ribbon and craft foam sheets there!
