These metal Halloween signs are a perfect DIY for your holiday decor!
And I really love how simple they are, they can go with so many different decor styles…
They take just two easy steps to recreate, and the best part is they only cost a few dollars to make!
Because Dollar Tree DIYs are always a favorite, am I right??
Just strolling through their seasonal aisle this time of year gets me so excited to start decorating!
Keep reading to find out how to quickly make your own and add a touch of Halloween to your decor while still staying classy.
Supplies Needed:
- 3 metal Halloween signs (Dollar Tree)
- 3 flat signs large enough for your metal signs to be glued to (Dollar Tree)
- White paint (I used Rust-oleum chalked spray paint in “Linen White”, but any white paint will work!)
- Black paint (again I used spray paint, this time Rust-oleum in flat black, but you can use any black paint!)
- Hot glue gun or E6000 glue
- Sanding block or sandpaper (optional)
Step One: Painting
To start with you’ll be painting the three flat signs white…
If you use the same signs that I did you may want to sand them to remove the glitter writing from the front before painting.
I just did this to make sure that the metal signs would lay flat once they were glued on.
If you found signs without the glitter then you can skip this step.
Once your signs have been sanded smooth, you can begin painting them.
I used spray paint for this because I already had some on hand, but Dollar Tree also sells basic white paint that you could use as well!
If you’re using spray paint for this step be sure to paint in a well ventilated area such as outside or in the garage with the garage door open!
You may need to do more than one coat depending on which paint you use.
Be sure to allow enough dry time in between coats!
Once your square signs are painted and drying, you can move onto painting the metal Halloween signs.
First, cut and remove the twine at the top of each sign.
Then you’ll be using the black paint on these (once again I used black spray paint that I had on hand, but Dollar Tree also sells basic black paint that will work!)
These signs will likely take a few coats, just make sure to keep each coat thin to avoid any drips or cracks when painting the metal.
Here’s how they’ll look when you’re finished:
Step Two: Gluing
Once all three of your flat square signs and all three of your metal signs are done drying it’s time to glue them together!
For this step you can use either hot glue OR E6000.
Just make sure that whichever you use, you place enough glue on the back of the metal signs to make them stay on well!
Apply whichever glue you’re using to the back of one of your metal signs, and then place it on the center of your flat square sign and press it down firmly in place for a few seconds.
Next if you want to you can take some black paint (I used a little black craft paint) and paint inside the holes in each metal sign.
That way you won’t be able to see the white sign through the holes anymore.
At this point if you want to add an extra layer of protection to your finished signs you can spray them with a clear sealer as well, but you may not need to if they won’t be handled too often.
Leave your signs laying flat until the glue has had enough time to dry, and viola! You’re finished!
The End Result!
Here they are looking cute on my mantle with a bit of my other Halloween decor this year:
The fun part is that you could paint them any color you wanted to match your decor!
I’ve seen pastel Halloween decorations everywhere lately, and these would look great in colors like that too!
They could also look cute grouped together hanging on the wall!
The signs I used already came with a bit of jute twine on the back to hang them with, but you could easily use some command hooks to hang them as well!
I hope this post inspires you to create some of your own Halloween decor this year!
I’d love to see this DIY recreated with different colors, or styled in different ways, so be sure to share some pics when you make them! And tag me if you’re using Instagram: @thelittlemanorblog
