Well Christmas is officially in full swing around here, and this dollar store DIY white owl Christmas wreath is the latest addition to my decor!
This wreath looks amazing but was ridiculously easy to make!
I was actually able to do it from start to finish in just one evening while simultaneously working on several other projects, haha!
And the best part is that this wreath is perfect for winter decor AFTER Christmas as well!
I love using versatile pieces in my decor that don’t need to be changed out once the holiday’s are over!
Keep reading to find out how I made this wreath using only $9 in products from my local dollar stores!
Supplies Needed:
- 18 inch wire wreath frame (Dollar Tree)
- 4 boxes of Scrub Buddies feather dusters (Dollar Tree)
- 2 “willow” floral picks (Dollar Tree)
- 1 “holly bouquet” floral pick (Dollar Tree)
- Owl ornament (99 Cents Only Store)
- White paint (optional)
Tools Needed:
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Paintbrush
Note: all of the supplies I used came from Dollar Tree other than the owl.
I couldn’t find an owl ornament at my local Dollar Tree, but I have seen them there in previous years!
I picked this one up at my local 99 Cents Only Store instead, for just $1!
You may be able to find an owl at yours, or if not Dollar Tree does have a lot of other neat ornaments that would also make a cute centerpiece for your wreath!
Step One: Feather Dusters
First, open all 4 of the feather duster boxes and take out all 8 of the dusters.
Find the opening on the bottom of each one.
Now carefully tear all the way down one edge of the opening until you get to the top and the duster is able to lie flat.
Be sure to only tear ONE side of the duster!
If you do accidently tear the other side though, you can always fix it with a bit of hot glue!
Now repeat this for all 8 of the dusters.
Next you will lay each one out on top of your wire wreath frame, making sure you have enough to cover it entirely.
8 dusters should cover one of the 18 inch Dollar Tree wire wreath frames perfectly, but if you are using a different frame or a different size you will want to make sure you have the right amount before you start gluing them on!
Once you’re happy with how your dusters look arranged on the frame, lift one up and apply hot glue to all three of the wires underneath.
Quickly press the duster back down onto the hot glue.
Since the wires are pretty thin it’s hard to glue this part without getting some hot glue underneath the wreath frame as well so be sure to put some newspaper or something similar down to protect your work surface from the dripping glue!
Now repeat that same process until your entire wreath frame is covered!
Here is the back just to give you a better idea of how it will look!
Step Two: Owl & Willow Picks
Next you’ll be adding the owl!
(or whatever ornament you’re using for your wreath centerpiece!)
As well as the willow picks…
Now you’ll actually only be using one entire willow pick, but each willow pick comes with 5 separate branches on it, and I needed 6 all together (3 on each side) so I cut one extra branch off of the second willow pick and hot glued it onto the rest.
You’ll want to bend all of your branches into the right spot before you glue the extra one on!
I also bent the stem of the willow pick straight up so that I could place the owl into it and have something to glue its back onto for more stability.
This part might take quite a bit of hot glue if your owl or ornament was as heavy as mine was!
After gluing be sure to hold it in place for several minutes so that the thick layer of glue can dry throughly.
Here is what it looks like from the back once the owl is glued on:
Note: My owl had some faux branches near his feet as well as a black and white buffalo check pattern on its belly originally, but I wanted it to be a little more subtle so I removed the branches and just used some white paint I had on hand to quickly paint over the pattern.
My owl also had a jute string attached to its head for hanging on a tree, so I just cut this off with scissors and saved it…you’ll see why later!
Step Three: Pincecones
Last but not least, you’ll be adding the pinecones!
First you’ll need to remove them from their floral picks.
You can either just bend them until they come off or you can cut them with scissors.
Either way just be careful not to break the pinecones as you remove them!
Now arrange them all in front of your owl. Try to have them facing different directions to make it look less uniform and more natural!
Once you’re happy with the way they’re arranged, glue them down against the front of the owl and willow branches.
Now the final touch is to add a way to hang your wreath!
This step is optional depending on where you are planning to use your wreath.
Remember the jute twine I cut off of the owl ornament earlier?
Well I simply tied that around the wire at the top of the wreath frame and used it to hang my wreath!
If you don’t have any jute twine on hand Dollar Tree usually carries it, or you can just use something else similar!
And now we have the finished product!
Can you believe how gorgeous those feather dusters look??
They make such a classy base for this wreath, and there are so many different ways you could customize it!
It would also look great with some miniature trees as the centerpiece, or maybe with a rustic bow!
The options are endless!
And I’m already thinking about what other home decor DIYs I can use those dusters in next, haha!
