This latest dollar store DIY is for three wooden Easter signs that are easy to make and look great with so many different decor styles!
These could go well with a farmhouse look, minimalist, boho, Scandinavian, and lot’s more!
Plus these little signs would look cute displayed in so many different ways too!
My personal favorite is to add them to a tiered tray!
Supplies Needed:
- Square wooden signs X3 (Dollar Tree)
- Wood bunny ornaments (Dollar Tree)
- Hanging Easter egg sign (Dollar Tree)
- Letter stickers (Dollar Tree)
- White paint
- Black paint
- e6000 glue or hot glue
- Modge podge and/or sealing spray
Step 1: Paint the signs
First off you’ll want to paint all of your wooden signs white!
(or another color of your choice)
You can just paint them as they are, or if they have glitter or other markings on them you may prefer to scrape and/or sand them to get a smoother finish before painting!
I painted straight onto the “welcome home” sign, but the Easter ones had glitter on them so I peeled the top layer of paper off the signs and then sanded them.
Once you’ve finished any prep work, just paint a few coats over the entire sign!
Chalk paint works great for this because it easily covers and hides imperfections, but you can use any paint you like!
Dollar Tree always has paint in white and various other colors that would work great too!
Allow the signs to dry, and move onto the next step…
Step 2: Bunny & egg
Next you’ll want to take your Easter egg sign, and gently peel one of the eggs off of the ribbon.
Now open up the package with the wood bunnies and take one out.
These bunnies do have a little hole towards the top of the ear that’s meant for hanging.
You can leave it or you can take something like silicon (that’s what I used, mine was from Dollar Tree!) or wood filler to fill the hole before you start painting.
Once that’s done, take your black paint and apply at least two coats to the bunny and the egg.
If you’re using one of the burlap eggs from the sign then be sure that you’re getting paint into all the little holes so that none of the old color shows through once you’re finished!
After they’re both dry, just apply some glue (either e6000 or hot glue should work fine!) to the backside of each of them, and then press each of them down onto one of your painted wooden signs!
Step 3: Letters
Now we’re going to move onto the final sign, the one that says “hippity hop”!
You can use the same phrase, or change it up if you prefer!
“Happy Easter” or “Carrot Patch” are a few others that would be cute too!
For this you’ll be using the letter stickers from Dollar Tree.
You can either leave them their original color, or do what I did and give them a couple coats of black paint before applying them to the sign!
If you do paint them, make sure you leave enough time for them to fully dry before you apply them!
When you first apply them to your sign, make sure not to push them down all the way, that way you can reposition them as needed!
You’ll also want to be careful not to scratch off the paint as you reposition them just right on the sign.
Once you’ve got them lined up how you want them, you can push down on each letter for a few seconds to help secure it in place.
If you find that the letters aren’t sticking too well, just apply a coat or two of modge podge over the entire front of the sign!
That will make sure that they stay protected from scratches as well as keep them in place!
Step 4: Sealing (optional)
Now that you’re signs are finished, you can apply a sealer to them if you wish!
This step is optional, but it will help keep them looking nicer longer!
You can either use modge podge over all the signs like you did with the “hippity hop” one, or you can spray them with a clear spray sealer!
I used rustoleum’s matte clear spray sealer on mine.
I’ve used it for many other projects over the years and I’ve always been happy with how well it holds up!
Be sure to read the directions on whatever sealer you use so you know how many coats to apply, and how long to allow them to dry before handling!
And now your signs are finished!
I love how they have a very minimalist style to them, while still being festive!
And here’s the third sign…
I really like how you can still see the zig-zag pattern through the paint!
It adds such a cute little touch!
I hope you loved these dollar store DIY wooden Easter signs, and were inspired to make your own!
It’s easy enough that you can even get the kids involved too, painting and putting everything together!
Make it a fun holiday craft for the family!
