Time for another Valentine’s Day Dollar Store DIY! This time I’m going to show you how you can make these cute XOXO decorations quickly and inexpensively!

I think these are really perfect for any Valentine’s Day mantle or shelf!

They are large enough to look impressive but didn’t cost more than $7 to make!

It always amazes me how it really doesn’t take much to completely transform something as simple as a wire heart frame!

And these wood Xs can be made without having to do any cutting or sanding at all!

Easy peasy, haha!

Keep reading to see how you can easily create your own dollar store DIY Valentine’s Day XOXO decorations!

Supplies Needed:

Supplies Needed for Dollar Store DIY Valentine's Day XOXO Decorations
  • 2 wire heart wreath frames (Dollar Tree)
  • 4 long wood signs (Dollar Tree)
  • Jute twine (Dollar Tree)
  • Hot glue or e6000 glue
  • White paint (optional)

As you can see, the two “love signs” are already painted white, so if you can find 4 of those you don’t need any paint!
When I went they only had 2 so I found these other wood signs that were the same size, and then just painted them all with some white chalk paint!

Step 1: Wrap Hearts

First off you’ll want to wrap both of the heart shaped wire frames with your jute twine!

You’re going to start by wrapping the bottom halves first!

Bottom Half:

Take the end of your roll of jute twine, and then using either some hot glue or e6000 glue, attach it to the back side of the heart frame as shown in this photo:

Personally I think that hot glue works a little better for this because it dries so fast!
If you use a different type of glue, you’ll want to wait longer for it to dry before you begin wrapping!

Be sure to leave your jute twine attached to the roll (don’t cut it yet) because you will need quite a bit!

Once your glue is dry enough, just start wrapping your jute twine around the frame over and over again, working your way towards the bottom of the frame.

Once you reach the bottom you can cut your jute twine off from the roll, just be sure to leave quite a few inches of extra length, you’ll need it in a few minutes!

Now take the end of your jute twine roll, and glue it to the heart frame on the opposite side from where you started last time.

Then repeat the same steps as last time, until you’ve wrapped it all the way to the bottom.

Now once you get to the point where the two pieces of jute twine can’t be wrapped anymore without overlapping, you can switch it up a little bit by reversing them each time you wrap them around.

So after wrapping the left side of the heart, take that same piece of twine and wrap the right side next. Then repeat with the other piece of twine.

You can really wrap it however you want!
But I tried a few different ways and felt like this way turned out the best!

Keep wrapping until you can no longer see the wire frame underneath.

Now you’ll want to cut the piece of twine that was still attached to the roll.

Then glue both loose ends onto the back side of the heart.

Top Half:

Next you’ll be wrapping the top portion of the heart!

To start you’ll take the end of your jute twine, and glue it onto the back side of the heart frame, in the same spot as you glued the first one!

This time you’ll be wrapping it around the frame going towards the top.

Once you get to the center of the top, cut the jute twine off at a point several inches further down.

Then move to the opposite side and repeat the same steps!

Once the two sides meet in the center, do the same thing you did at the bottom part of the heart and reverse sides each time you wrap them.

Wrap the left side of the heart, then take that same piece of twine and wrap the right side next.

Repeat with the other piece of jute twine, and keep going until there’s no more wire frame showing though!

Then cut off the piece of jute twine that’s still attached to the roll.

Now glue both the loose ends down onto the back side of the heart.

Step 2: Make Xs

Now you’ll be making the two wood X signs!

If you were able to find 4 of the white signs then you don’t have to do any painting!

(Unless you want them to be a different color!)

If you had to get a variety of colors like I did, then the first step will be to paint them!

For mine I used a few coats of white chalk paint.

Once they’re dry, you can glue them!

For mine I used e6000 since it’s stronger, but you can also use hot glue if you prefer!

I found that it was easiest to stand them up and decide what angle I wanted the Xs to be at, then lay them down and glue them!

For the second X, you can just lay them on top of the first one to make sure they line up the same, then glue the two pieces of wood together!

Make sure you allow enough time for the glue to dry!
Remember to check whichever glue you use to find out how long the dry time is!

Final Results!

And that’s all there is to it!

Now just stand back and admire your handiwork, haha!

I feel like these have a sort of modern farmhouse look, and can really go with a wide variety of decor!

I was so excited to style my mantle with them!

And the cotton garland is actually another fun DIY that I made recently!

I originally made it for Christmas, but then realized it would look just as cute on my Valentine’s Day mantle!

I’ll be posting a tutorial for that DIY soon!

I hope you were inspired to try making your own dollar store DIY Valentine’s Day XOXO decorations!
